A few years ago I went through a life-changing illness and then shortly after, experienced a deep and sudden tragedy. I lost my mum suddenly, she was taken way before her time. What this horrific experience has taught me is that, life really is too short, and you’ve got to live it the way you want to live it, before it’s too late.

Slowly, I’ve learned to slow down, to be more present with my kids, to accept myself as I am and to be more self-compassionate. I was living on auto-pilot not really experiencing or enjoying my life before all this happened. And now I’m back in the driving seat fully engaged.

My new creative photography approach as a portrait photographer, Kent, came about after everything that happened. I wanted to let go and pour my heart and soul into my work and in the process, help to heal other women too. The more I speak to mums, friends, connections, the more I realise we are ALL going through something.

Some of the amazing models that have posed for me in my latest series of work have been through huge life-changing events. One woman is getting over cancer. Another has just come out the other side of a horrendous menopause. One is celebrating being a grandmother for the first time, while also still having to care for her ageing parents. We are all in different life stages and yet we can all connect in the everyday struggles.

What’s important is not to lose ourselves completely when life throws you these curveballs. I’ve lost myself many times over the past twenty years, in the thick of motherhood in the early days and then with severe illness in hospital. Those moments where you think: what am I doing with my life? Why am I here? What do I really want to do? Is this the way I really want to live my life? Am I really feeling fulfilled and living the dream or is it falling through my hands?

These creative photoshoots are largely about saying, you know what, I AM here, I AM present and I AM in the driving seat. It’s about celebrating you for all of who you are, the ups and the downs, the good and the bad, the great days and the worse days.

I will work with you to find out a little about you, how you want to be seen and to find your true you, the essence of you that is always there underneath all of life’s turbulences.
