Thanks for visiting Louisa Peacock Photography. I’m a family photographer, North London and have been specialising in family and kids’ photography in and around Muswell Hill, Crouch End, Hampstead and Highgate for over 10 years.

This page lists all the things you need to know to book a family photoshoot with me, indoors in my neat little studio in Muswell Hill, or outdoors in your favourite, local park.

Many families choose to have their photos taken outside. Why? Because I have a golden rule when it comes to capturing families: let the kids be kids! I treat the whole session like a really fun playdate, and I’ll never force them to pose or to sit and smile at the camera. The best photos come from spontaneous and genuine expressions captured in the moment, running around and having fun, and that’s what I’m known for.

Typically a family photoshoot can last between 1 to 2 hours in the park. Feel free to ask any questions!

How it works

As a mum of two I know that if you ask your kids to ‘smile’ for a photo, you either get flat refusal or a really awkward, odd face. Bless them.

That’s why days before our phtosohoot, I’ll phone you to ask what it is you’re looking for. Do you want candid, spontaneous images of your kids having fun? Or do you want more of a posed, professional look in my studio?

Think about… how you’d like to display your images. All my families go home with stunning, digital images – that’s a given. But I get you thinking about how to print and enjoy those images for years to come. Are you leaning towards a wall gallery to brighten up your home? Or a gorgeous, keepsake album?

Either way, I let your kids be themselves.

I ask them to show me what they’re interested in, build a friendship and then start shooting.

I love it. Most kids genuinely have a great time, they forget the camera is even there.

The same goes for adults too! I know how daunting it can be to hire a family photographer, North London, and to have a stranger take your photographs while trying to ‘look natural’.

Believe me, you’ll really feel like you ‘belong’ with me. I guarantee I’ll put you at ease so we can all enjoy the session together.

Whether you opt for an outdoors location or come to my fully equipped studio, you’ll know which one feels right for you.

FAMILY PHOTOSHOOT – £295

The session fee includes a 2hr photoshoot in a local park or my studio, 25-35 images edited fully for viewing, a pre-session consultation in-person or over Zoom, and a viewing appointment, cinema-style, at my studio.

How long does a family photoshoot take?

This can depend on a few things, like how old your children are and the great British weather! But usually they last between 1 to 2 hours. It’s kind of like a big, fun playdate and I’ll always bring the photographing to an end when the kids get tired.

What if it rains or is freezing on our photoshoot day?

Don’t worry, I can always reschedule a photoshoot if the weather doesn’t behave how we’d like it to. However, in true British spirit, I tend to persevere with the session as long as it’s dry outside. Having said that, nobody wants miserable, freezing kids, so if it’s pouring it down or unexpectedly cold then I’ll re-arrange free of charge.

Of course you can always rearrange your outdoors photoshoot for an indoor, warm and dry guaranteed photoshoot at my Muswell Hill studio.

What should I wear to a family photoshoot?

My style is natural and neutral. In our pre-session consultation I’ll go through in detail with you on what to wear and if you’d like, I can always come round to your home to have a sneak peak at your wardrobe and pick out a few things for you that will work, based on my 10 years’ experience photographing families. I’ll also send you a free guide on what to wear so you can prepare – and trust me, it’s easier than you might think. We’ll sort this all out beforehand for you, your partner and children so you don’t have to think about it on the day.

What if my kids misbehave or simply won’t ‘play ball’ on the day?

Believe me, being a mum of two lively, strong-willed boys I know exactly how you feel on that one. But I mean it when I say I ‘let the kids be kids’. No kids are perfectly behaved all the time and to be honest, a little bit of cheekiness and silliness on the day makes for great photos!

I’ve never yet done a session where the kids didn’t join in and end up having fun – even if they thought they wouldn’t like it or were a bit shy to start with. I spend lots of time getting to know the kids, playing games with them and having fun – it’s like a playdate where I befriend them from the start. And it’s all about them and what they want to do; they can actually call the shots which many find super rewarding.

Even in my studio, I let the kids play with toys, jump around and generally ‘be silly’ – that way they feel comfortable and relaxed and forget the camera is even there.

I’m worried my husband won’t really want to do this as he’s a bit camera shy.

You’re not the only one! Most people that book me tend to be mums and then dads are told ‘after the fact’ they’re coming on a photoshoot. In my experience, Dads can often feel a bit camera shy or worry that they haven’t got the time to build a family photoshoot into their hectic lifestyles. Please don’t worry. In some cases, if Dads have to shoot off then that’s not a problem; we can get the full family shots done first and then focus on the siblings together. I’ve even written this blog on how to convince dads it’ll be fine. It will be. And most end up having just as much fun as their kids 🙂
